THE 130TH EDITION OF THE TRADITIONAL HAFLINGER GALLOP RACE

On Easter Monday, April 6, 2026, a special highlight awaits in Merano: the traditional Haflinger gallop race celebrates its 130th edition and marks the official start of the racing season at the racecourse in Maia Bassa.

At 10:00 a.m., the grand festive parade starts at the Vinschgau Gate, heading towards the city center and continuing to the racecourse. The program begins there at 11:00 a.m., with the races starting at 1:00 p.m.

On Easter Monday, the Haflinger horses, with their characteristic chestnut coats and light manes, take to the racecourse in Merano for the traditional race. The competitions begin with a parade of participants, accompanied by marching bands and folkloric groups passing through the streets of the city center.

The event is complemented by a varied supporting program featuring music, entertainment, the traditional “Bandltanz” on horseback, and culinary offerings.This year, the event celebrates its 130th edition – a significant milestone that will make this Easter Monday even more impressive, fascinating, and memorable.
